The Current State and Progress of Online Gambling in the US Monday, Dec 19 2011

Online casinos activities easily evoke a lot of interest in the US, and with the lingering challenges in the economy, it is essential that we take a cursory look at the current state and progress of online gambling in the US. There have been unverified reports about the possibility of a more liberal approach to online gambling in the US. While various sectors may cite different triggers for these leading indicators, all of them welcome this positive development in the online gambling industry.

Of course, for the advocates of a more open regime in the online gambling business would surely welcome any positive events that would bring us closer to the legalization of online poker and casino sites. Industry pundits and observers are hoping that substantial developments can be seen by as early as next year. This early, we are already witnessing moves by politicians and businessmen to get on board and facilitate the legalization of online gambling in the US.

At the moment, there are several states that are on legalization mode and are now seriously considering the establishment of their own online casinos with the enactment of relevant poker laws. These recent moves are putting the federal government on notice and we will not be surprised if they succumb to pressure and raise the ante sooner than expected. Several states plan to achieve their objective through legislation and implementation of tax measures for various types of online gambling. Industry experts agree that this is the appropriate move as most people are still confused about the state of online gambling in the US. This confusion is expected to give way to a more settled regime as soon as the federal government undertakes the necessary measures that will finally define their position on the legalization of online poker and online gambling.

If we go by the recent developments, it is quite apparent that online poker will pave the way for the legalization of the online gambling in the US. And when the federal government buckles down to work, we should see a clear indication on how things will change in the next few months. This is considered as good news by various sectors. In fact, some pundits go as far as declaring that the move can push the floundering economy and support fiscal priorities of these states that are on legalization mode.

Operators of large land-based casinos have initially opposed any moves that would support the legalization of online poker and online casinos. However, major stakeholders are now singing a different tune. The operation of online gambling is now seen to complement the operation of land-based casinos.

However, industry experts and stakeholders agree that online casino games like slots and blackjack may have to go through some rough sailing as compared to online poker games. Poker is considered as a game of skill worldwide. A related study that was conducted recently estimates that the tax revenues that will be generated with the legalization of online poker and online casinos will reach $40 billion in the next 10 years. PayPal Returns to the Gambling Industry Friday, Sep 3 2010

The rumors have been buzzing on the Internet for many months now that changes are coming from the United States. Four years after the introduction and passing of the dreaded Anti Gambling laws, the ones who opposed the dreaded bill back then are now taking the opportunity created by the latest recession to turn the anti gambling laws into regulating gambling laws.

With many individual states making changes to their own gambling legislation, this comes as no surprise as the entire country is hurting from the economical problems and are looking for ways to fill the gaps in the budget that have appeared because of it.

Many companies across the world are monitoring developments regarding online gambling with much interest, while many others have already decided the change will come and are gearing up to be ready to hit the US market once it opens up.

The most controversial company among them has to be without doubt PayPal, who at the time of the introduction of the Anti Gambling laws in 2006 had just been obtained by Ebay, and pulled out of the gambling entertainment industry in a hurry. At that time many gamblers and online casino operators were left high and dry, where many gamblers lost their primary means to fund their accounts and the casino owners a convenient means to circumvent the use of credit cards for gambling.

Now, more than four years later, PayPal is planning its return to the industry, it pulled out of so fast back then. In fact to show the world they mean business they already started processing for some major European players like Ladbrokes and William Hill, to name a few. At the online casinos and also on the online bingo websites operated by those icons of the gambling industry, players can already fund and withdraw money through PayPal for a couple of weeks now, and it looks like it is a permanent solution.

To this day PayPal is still the largest “E-wallet” system in the world, which is most wide spread and available in almost every country in the world, however, since its hasty departure from the gambling industry in 2006, a lot has changed and many “E-wallet” systems have since emerged to fill the gap PayPal left, so while at the start there was almost no competition, this time they will have competition, as companies like Money Bookers, Neteller and the new Ukash system, which is rapidly becoming more popular won’t give up their share of a market they have had four years in to corner it.

PayPal may be gearing up to return to the gambling industry, but one thing is for sure, this time they will have a major fight on their hands to regain, what they threw out so hastily all those years ago.
This being said, they still are the most widely spread system on the web and therefore a welcome addition for many players, especially new ones who are going to gamble online for the very first time.

Two Controversial Issues Possibly Overturned In California Tuesday, Aug 10 2010

Two issues have caused great controversy amongst lawmakers over the past several years; same sex marriage and online gambling.  Just last Wednesday, a federal judge in California created hope for those supporting same-sex marriage,  proposition 8 had previously banned California’s same-sex marriage.  Judge Vaughn Walker overturned this ban, claiming the law to be unconstitutional.  The next prohibition that is likely scheduled to be tackled is online gambling.

Lawmakers have begun to create a bill that would regulate the online gambling industry within the United States.  Representative Barney Frank recently got legislation passed through the House Financial Services Committee.  This legislation is scheduled to be heard after the brief legislative recess and the mid-term election.  The results of the mid-term election will have a great impact on both the issues of same-sex marriage and on online gambling.  For these reasons, many people in California and all across the United States are looking at the stances of the leaders in the US.

In California, the governor is a supporter of gambling and advocates gambling expansion.  It is likely that along with same-sex marriage, California will pave the way for online gambling legislation.  This has been greatly contested and debated for many years and has now received a great deal of support.  Millions of people within the US play online poker which has turned into a billion dollar industry.  Many law makers are now viewing online gambling as a way of increasing state revenue.

Other states are now looking toward California, one of the more liberal states, as a leader in these issues.  Along with this state, New Jersey and Florida have come a long way in pushing online gambling to the forefront of discussion.  It is likely that shortly after the mid-term election, both issues will be heard and voted upon in California and beyond.

Challenge Casino is still accepting real money players from the USA

On 30 September 2006 the United States Congress passed The Safe Port Act, which included the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.  Challenge Casino

The “Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act” doesn’t prohibit US players to gamble online. It prohibits the use of banks and electronic checks to transfer money to online gambling operators. That means that if your state doesn’t have a specific law against online gambling it is legal for you to gamble online. Currently, the following stats do have laws against online gambling – Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wisconsin. If you do not live in those stats it is legal for you to gamble online at online casinos and online poker sites.

Below is a list of online casinos and poker rooms that accept US players for real money gambling. Some of those casinos allow players from all US states to gamble while other do not accept players from the 8 states mentioned above.
