A Look at the Current State of Online Gambling in the US Monday, Jan 9 2012

Online casino and other forms of online gambling are now considered hot items in the US and have been hugging the limelight these past few weeks. Certain sectors are now looking at the potential impact of such activities in the overall effort to stabilize the economy, which has been floundering in tenuous grounds in the past couple of years. Specifically, there is now a growing call for a more liberalized approach to online poker and other forms of online gambling as online casinos are seen as a major force that can strengthen the economy and improve the standards of living of Americans. We are now seeing positive signs and initiatives by both the government and the private sectors which are expected to favor the legalization of online poker and online casinos in various states. Some observers and industry analysts are actually optimistic that a liberalized regime in the online gaming business will become a reality in a year or so. All these major shifts and positive signals have encouraged key personalities and stakeholders in the online gaming business to take steps and find opportunities to expand or enter into joint venture agreements in anticipation of the possible entry of the US market into the mainstream online poker and online casino business.

At present, there are several states that are now seriously contemplating to take the lead and establish their respective online casinos along with the relevant legislative measures, and these have led to increased pressure for the federal government to take the necessary steps and define the directions for the online gaming industry. Most of the legislative measures are focused on the legalization of online gaming activities as well as tax measures that directly apply to activities and business operations linked to online poker and other forms of online gambling.

Stakeholders and policymakers consider this move as appropriate and smart as there seems to be a lot of confusion and contradicting views when it comes to the legal aspects of online gambling. All these issues and concerns are expected to be straightened out as soon as the federal government comes up and clarifies its position on the legality of online gambling.

This major development has been brought to the fore by the recent actions taken by two protagonists in the online gambling scene – the top honcho of Las Vegas Sands and a staunch critic of online gambling. In the past, most operators and stakeholders of large casinos in the US were resisting moves that would legalize online poker and other forms of online gambling. Interestingly, top players and stakeholders in the gambling scene are now taking a different tack and are now supportive of measures that will legalize online gambling. Business analysts explain that stakeholders in large casino businesses are now looking at the synergy that would come about in the event that online gambling is allowed to enter the mainstream.

There are unnamed sources who confirmed that US House Speaker John Boehner is supportive of the proposed measures to legalize online gambling and this has given the impetus for key players in the government and the private sector to push through with their plans to finally put in place the legal basis for the operation of online gambling and the establishment of regulated online poker rooms and online casinos within a year or two. sb

Table Games in Maryland Casinos Tuesday, Jan 25 2011

As is usually the case when something new begins, gambling expansion has begun to spread like a disease in Northeast America. This disease, however, is not causing pain. Instead, it is bringing in millions of dollars as revenue, and thousands of job employment opportunities in Northeastern states.Last year, lawmakers in Pennsylvania moved to legalize the ground breaking decision of allowing table games. Since last July, casinos in Pennsylvania began operating table games much to the delight of casinos players. This has allowed the state to bring in major revenue, since the table games became operational.

This has led Maryland to consider introducing table games. Senator Kathy Klausmeier has introduced new legislature that will bring Maryland its table games. Maryland recently opened their first new casino, but lawmakers seem to think that introducing table games will only increase the revenue generated in the New Year. The decision to ultimately bring roulette, blackjack, crap and various other table games to the state will fall on the shoulders of the citizens in Maryland. While lawmakers will approve the new legislature, and Martin O’Malley, Governor of Maryland will even sign it into law, it is the voters who will ultimately decide if the casinos can begin to offer table games.

The Northeast gaming industry is booming as a result of table games, and many other casinos have begun adding new options. Those with casinos in New Jersey and Delaware are moving towards betting in sports. Delaware since recently has even legalized sports betting, while New Jersey is bound to do the same.

The East Coast of America will soon become a haven for casino players, with Florida considering making their casinos similar to Las Vegas style casino resorts. South Beach has become a huge tourist destination, while the addition of land based casinos which are being built by gaming companies in Las Vegas, is bound to make South Beach more attractive to vacationers and celebrities.

Maine To Expand It’s Gambling Houses Monday, Jan 3 2011

Maine has so far been behind other American states with its gambling expansion ideas. But, 2011 could change all that! Maine has a strong presence of Conservatives, but lawmakers in Maine are taking into consideration many options that could catapult Maine into one of the bigger gambling gaming states in the country. Already, Oxford County has got an approved casino and Hollywood Slots is hoping its turn will come next with a full scale casino. This is only the start of what the New Year looks like in Maine.

Bidderford and Lewiston are looking into strongholds to expand gambling in 2011, in the state. There are numerous gaming interests in the state, and it is up to the lawmakers to ensure the law moves as quickly as possible in the next year. While this task may take more than one session to get moving, the gaming issue may very well be the biggest debated topic in Maine in the New Year.

Another state slowly inching its way towards gambling expansions may be Massachusetts. Lawmakers in Massachusetts were close to agreeing on a deal in the state to bring back casino resorts, but Robert DeLeo, House Speaker, insisted that race tracks be given slots first, which ended with Duval Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts to refuse by vetoing the bill. Patrick has consistently pushed for casino resorts from the start, but his attempts have been thwarted first by Salvatore DiMasi, former House Speaker. With DeLeo as the new House Speaker, Patrick assumed the expansion on gambling legislature would be easily completed. However, DeLeo’s allegiance on slot machines has caused the debate to continue in the New Year.

Maine so far has taken a different turn than Massachusetts, with its gaming interest taking over the state by storm. Maine joins Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and New York as states to make their presence felt in the gambling industry. Pennsylvania has similar style Vegas casinos, while lawmakers in Delaware have authorized betting on sports last year. Even New Jersey is considering regulating online casino gambling in the New Year!
